Keys to Sucessful Book Marketing

The name of the game when marketing any product or service is to get your message in your front of your audience as often and as clearly as possible. This goal is the same for marketing your book. Here are some tips for marketing your book both online and off:

Be visible:

Make sure your current readers and prospective readers are exposed to your name and your book as often as possible. Whenever you are out at a networking or other event, have a copy of your book with you. Mention your book whenever you meet someone who might be interested in it, and always include a short description of your book at the bottom of all your emails with a link directing people back to your website for more information.

Whenever you are out promoting your book (through book signings, speaking events, or other workshops) let your readers know about it. Chances are if they liked reading your book, they'd love to tune in to your next event. Check out our built-in Event Promotion feature.

Know your audience!

You've written your book with an audience in mind. Whether it is geared towards recently retired couples or people who own dogs or college students with massive credit card debt, you know exactly what audience would love to read your book. Now its time to connect with those readers. Visit the library at a local retirement community, setup a meeting with  a local Humane Society or find a way to interact with college students on Facebook.

Play a fun Facebook quiz based on the book, "Ooh Baby Compound Me."

Get creative with where you sell the book:

Bookstores are not the only place that will sell your book. If you don't have a big budget for advertising or distributing your book, then you need to get creative in the sales channels you pursue. Think about the smaller niche markets in which you could sell your book. If you've written a book about gardening – see if the local nursery would stock a couple copies of your book. If you've written a book about home-improvement, perhaps the hardware store would be interested in selling a few copies.

Use your expertise and get your book mentioned:

As an author you are a credible, desirable resource in your field. If you have just completed your book, there is a good chance that you are the most up-to-date expert on your topic in the world. Use this celebrity status to your advantage – offer to write articles for websites and magazines that cover your topic. Become a regular guest blogger to the most popular sites in your field. Contributing to these publications will not only give you a chance to mention your book, they will also help you boost your search engine rankings.
